The Orange Yuma Mushroom, scientifically known as Ricordea yuma, is a vibrant soft coral prized for its intense orange coloration and bubble-like vesicles covering its surface. These vesicles can sometimes extend onto the mouth, giving it a textured, almost glowing appearance under reef lighting. Each polyp is a single animal that can expand and contract, often reaching 2–4 inches across when fully open.

Lighting
- Moderate lighting is ideal
- Too much light can cause shrinking or bleaching
- Too little light may dull coloration
Water Flow
- Low to moderate flow
- Avoid strong, direct currents that can cause the coral to detach
- Best placed on sand or low rockwork
- Allow space—can expand significantly
Water Parameters
- Temperature: 76–80°F
- Salinity: 1.024–1.026
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Nitrate: Low to moderate (they tolerate slightly “dirtier” water than SPS corals)
- Stability is more important than perfection
Feeding
- Primarily photosynthetic
- Can benefit from occasional feeding:
- Microplankton
- Coral Cane or fine coral foods
- Feeding is optional but can boost growth and coloration
Behavior & Compatibility
- May detach and move if unhappy with placement
Growth & Propagation
- Reproduces by splitting or “budding”
- Can slowly spread across rockwork under good conditions
Important Notes ⚠️
- More sensitive than other mushroom corals—avoid sudden changes
- Can melt or decline quickly if stressed
- Always acclimate slowly to lighting and water conditions
